Our verdict: FurMark is the well-known free tool for pushing a graphics card to its limits to check cooling and stability. FurMark 2 adds Vulkan, presets up to 4K and a VRAM test. Its load is heavier than most games, so watch temperatures and do not leave it running unattended.
About FurMark
FurMark is a free GPU stress test and graphics benchmark by Geeks3D. FurMark 2, the current version, is built on the GeeXLab engine and runs on Windows and Linux. It renders a demanding 3D scene that keeps the GPU at full load, which quickly shows overheating, unstable overclocks and weak power delivery.
Benchmark presets for 1080p, 1440p, ultrawide 3440x1440 and 4K produce scores you can compare online. A VRAM test fills a chosen amount of video memory, and command-line options allow scripted runs. GPU-Z and GPU Shark are bundled for monitoring clocks, temperatures and load. The older FurMark 1 is still maintained alongside it.
What it does well
- GPU stress test. Holds the graphics card at full load to test cooling and stability.
- OpenGL and Vulkan. Runs the test and benchmarks with either graphics API.
- Benchmark presets. 1080p, 1440p, 3440x1440 and 4K presets with online scores.
- VRAM test. Fills a set amount of video memory, up to 32 GB.
- Command line. Scriptable runs with presets and test options.
Who it is for
Good fit
Gamers and PC builders checking a new or overclocked graphics card and its cooling.
Look elsewhere
Laptops with weak cooling or small power adapters, and anyone who cannot monitor temperatures during the test.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Free, simple to start
- Very heavy, consistent GPU load
- OpenGL and Vulkan benchmarks
- Includes GPU-Z for monitoring
Cons
- Load is harsher than real games
- Tests only the GPU
- Closed source
How to install FurMark
The button downloads the 64-bit FurMark 2 setup from Geeks3D; a portable ZIP is on the same page. Start with a short run while watching the temperature readout, and stop if the GPU overheats or artifacts appear on screen.
Questions about FurMark
Is FurMark free?
Yes. FurMark is free to download and use from Geeks3D.
Is FurMark safe for my graphics card?
Modern cards throttle or shut down when they get too hot, but FurMark creates more heat than games. Monitor temperatures and stop the test if they get close to your card's limit.
