Our verdict: The Epic Games Launcher is worth installing for the free games Epic gives away and for titles that are exclusive to its store. As a launcher it is simpler than Steam, with fewer community features. It needs an Epic account and keeps running in the background by default.
About Epic Games Launcher
The launcher is the Windows client for the Epic Games Store, run by Epic Games. It installs and updates games you own, including Fortnite and other free-to-play titles, and is also how you install Unreal Engine.
The store regularly gives away games that stay in your library for good after you claim them. The launcher supports cloud saves for games that use them, a friends list and achievements, but it has no mod workshop or user reviews like Steam.
