Our verdict: Action! is a polished recorder for gameplay and desktop video with a compact overlay, webcam greenscreen and live streaming. The lifetime license is cheap compared with subscriptions. The trial, however, watermarks everything and stops after 30 days, while OBS Studio does the same jobs for free.
About Mirillis Action!
Action! is made by Mirillis, which also makes the Splash video player and Remotly. It records games, web video, the desktop or a single application, adds webcam and microphone commentary, takes screenshots and streams live to services like Twitch and YouTube.
The trial is fully functional for 30 days, but every recording and live stream carries an Action! watermark, and after 30 days the program stops working until you enter a key. The home-use lifetime license costs $29.95 at list price with free updates; commercial use needs a separate license. No account or card is needed for the trial.
What it does well
- Gameplay recording. Records smooth HD gameplay and shows a frame rate counter for benchmarks.
- Selected application mode. Records only one app window and blacks out the rest of the desktop.
- Greenscreen webcam. Removes the webcam background without a physical green screen.
- Live streaming. Streams the desktop or games to Twitch, YouTube and other services.
- Quick upload. Exports and uploads recordings to YouTube and Facebook with presets.
