Merge PDF Files for Free

Combine several PDF files into one document. Set the order, click Merge, and download the result. Your files stay on your device the whole time.

How to merge PDF files

  1. Drop the PDF files onto the box above, or click Choose files. You can add up to 50 files.
  2. Check the page count shown for each file, and use the up and down arrows to set the order. The first file in the list comes first in the merged PDF.
  3. Remove any file you added by mistake with the remove button.
  4. Click Merge PDF. The progress bar shows each file as its pages are copied.
  5. Download merged.pdf, or click Start over to merge another set.

What merging keeps

Every page of every file is copied into the new PDF in the order you set, with its text, images, fonts and page size. Text stays selectable and searchable if it was in the original, and pages of different sizes, such as Letter and A4, can sit in the same document.

Merging does not re-compress anything, so the result is roughly as large as the files together. To merge only some pages of a document, first pull them out with Split PDF and then merge the parts.

Merging private documents

Tax forms, contracts, medical records and bank statements are exactly the files people need to combine, and exactly the ones they should not upload to unknown servers. Here the PDF engine runs inside your browser, so the documents are read and written on your device.

For regular work with large or many files, a desktop app is more comfortable. PDFsam Basic and PDF Arranger are free, open-source and also work offline.

Supported files and limitations

  • Accepts PDF files. The format is checked from the file's contents, not only its extension.
  • Up to 50 files at a time, 200 MB each and 200 MB in total.
  • Files are processed one at a time in a background thread, so the page stays responsive.

Password-protected PDFs cannot be merged. Open them in a PDF reader, remove the password if you are allowed to, and try again.

Bookmarks of the original files are not carried over, links that jump to another page may stop working, fillable form fields can lose their function, and digital signatures become invalid because the document changes.

Privacy and security

Your files are opened and processed by your own browser. The ExeDepot server only delivers this page and its scripts; it never receives your files, their contents or their names. The page loads no third-party scripts or ads, and its Content Security Policy allows connections only back to exedepot.com.

Results exist only in your browser's memory until you download them, and they are discarded when you click Start over or close the tab. No online tool can promise perfect security, so keep your browser up to date, and for documents you would never put online consider an offline desktop app such as PDFsam Basic.

Frequently asked questions

Add the PDFs, put them in order with the arrows and click Merge PDF. The tool creates a single file with all pages.

Will the merged PDF have a watermark?

No. Nothing is added to your pages.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

No. Encrypted PDFs have to be unlocked in a PDF reader before they can be merged.

Are my PDFs uploaded?
