Free WebP to JPG Converter

Turn WebP images saved from websites into JPG files that open everywhere. Choose the quality and the background color, and keep your files on your device.

How to convert WebP to JPG

  1. Drop the WebP files onto the box above, or click Choose files. Images you saved from a web page with Save image as often end in .webp.
  2. Leave the quality at 90 for a close match to the original, or lower it for smaller files.
  3. If any image has a transparent background, choose the color that should replace it. White works for most documents.
  4. Click Convert to JPG, then download each file or all of them as a ZIP.

Why websites give you WebP files

Many websites, including online shops and news sites, serve images as WebP because the files are small and load quickly. When you save such an image, you get a .webp file, and some apps, print shops, older photo viewers and upload forms refuse it. Converting to JPG gives you the most widely supported image format there is.

Before converting, check whether you need JPG at all. Windows 11 Photos, current browsers and editors like GIMP open WebP directly. JPG is the answer when a specific program or form insists on it.

JPG or PNG as the target?

Pick JPG for photos: the file stays reasonably small and every device can open it. Pick WebP to PNG instead for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with a transparent background, because JPG fills transparent areas with a solid color and blurs sharp edges slightly.

Supported files and limitations

  • Accepts WebP files. The format is checked from the file's contents, not only its extension.
  • Up to 30 files at a time, 50 MB each.
  • Images up to 50 megapixels and 16,384 pixels on the longest side. A decoded image needs about 4 bytes of memory per pixel, so a 50-megapixel photo takes around 200 MB while it is processed.
  • Files are processed one at a time in a background thread, so the page stays responsive.

WebP images are often already lossy, and saving as JPG compresses them once more. At quality 90 the extra loss is small, but it is not zero.

JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with the background color you choose. An animated WebP is converted to a still JPG of its first frame. Metadata and color profiles are not kept.

Privacy and security

Your files are opened and processed by your own browser. The ExeDepot server only delivers this page and its scripts; it never receives your files, their contents or their names. The page loads no third-party scripts or ads, and its Content Security Policy allows connections only back to exedepot.com.

Results exist only in your browser's memory until you download them, and they are discarded when you click Convert more files or close the tab. No online tool can promise perfect security, so keep your browser up to date, and for documents you would never put online consider an offline desktop app such as ImageGlass.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open WebP files on Windows?

Windows 11 Photos and all modern browsers open WebP. For other apps, convert the file to JPG here, or install a viewer such as ImageGlass that supports WebP.

Does WebP to JPG lose quality?

A little, because JPG is lossy. At the default quality of 90 the difference is hard to see. Use WebP to PNG if you need a lossless copy.

What happens to transparent parts of the image?

They are filled with the background color you choose before the JPG is saved. White is the default.

Can I convert an animated WebP?

Only the first frame is converted. JPG cannot store animation.

Is it safe to convert my images here?

The images are processed in your browser and never uploaded. As with any website, use an up-to-date browser.
