Our verdict: Comodo Dragon is Chrome-like browsing with a few privacy and security additions from Comodo, such as highlighting how a site's certificate was validated and blocking download tracking. Its weak point is updates: the offline installer on Comodo's server is many months old, while Chromium security fixes ship every few weeks, so a current mainstream browser is the safer choice.
About Comodo Dragon
Comodo Dragon is a web browser from the security company Comodo, built on Chromium technology, so it looks and works much like Chrome and installs Chrome extensions. Comodo adds Domain Validation technology, which tells you whether a site uses a basic domain-validated certificate or a stronger one, blocks browser download tracking and makes privacy changes compared with stock Chromium.
Comodo also makes IceDragon, a separate Firefox-based browser, and both are free. The download page promotes Comodo's paid security suite, but the browser itself has no price. At the time of writing the 64-bit installer on Comodo's download server was last updated in May 2025, so check the version against the current Chrome release before relying on it.
What it does well
- Chromium base. Uses Chromium technology, so websites and most Chrome extensions work as in Chrome.
- Domain Validation. Shows when a site only has a basic domain-validated SSL certificate instead of a stronger one.
- Download tracking protection. Prevents tracking of the files you download in the browser.
- Privacy changes. Comodo says Dragon adds privacy enhancements on top of standard Chromium.
- Chrome extensions. Installs extensions from the Chrome Web Store.
