Our verdict: Plexamp is the best way to listen to a music collection stored on Plex Media Server, with a design made for music rather than video. It is free, and remote music streaming does not need a pass, but it is useless without a Plex server and some of its standout features are for Plex Pass members.
About Plexamp
Plexamp is a music player from Plex, Inc. It connects to your Plex Media Server, or one shared with you, and plays its music library with artist pages, playlists, radio and mixes. It is built specifically for music, separate from the main Plex app.
Plex says the subscription requirements for remote streaming apply only to video, so streaming your music to Plexamp from outside the home does not need a Remote Watch Pass. Members-only features such as Sonic Sage, Guest DJ and Mix Builders require Plex Pass.
