Our verdict: Amuse packs image, video, audio and text generation into one native Windows app with a gallery and a video editor. The new StableDiffusion.cpp backend runs many models without a Python environment. Amuse was long promoted by AMD, but the developer now warns that the latest builds may not work reliably on AMD hardware.
About Amuse
Amuse is a .NET desktop app for Windows developed by TensorStack. The source code is Apache 2.0; the compiled releases are distributed under a separate Amuse license because they bundle third-party components. Downloads are published on the project's GitHub releases page; the old amuse-ai.com website no longer hosts the app.
It supports image pipelines such as FLUX.1, FLUX.2, SDXL, SD 3, Qwen Image and Z-Image, video pipelines such as Wan 2.2 and CogVideoX, ACE-Step music, Whisper speech recognition and Supertonic voice generation. NVIDIA GPUs use CUDA 13 with driver 580.65 or later; AMD, Intel and NVIDIA cards can use Vulkan. Models are downloaded separately inside the app and run locally.
What it does well
- Many model pipelines. FLUX, SDXL, SD 3, Qwen Image, Z-Image and more for images.
- Video generation. Wan 2.2 and CogVideoX pipelines plus a built-in video editor.
- Upscale and interpolate. Upscales images and video and adds frames for slow motion.
- Image editing. Inpainting, selection and masking tools for generated or local images.
- Native backends. CUDA, Vulkan and a StableDiffusion.cpp backend without Python.
Who it is for
Good fit
Windows users who want images, video and audio generation in one native app instead of a browser UI.
Look elsewhere
AMD users looking for a stable setup right now, and PCs without a capable dedicated GPU.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Free and open source
- Images, video, audio and text in one app
- No Python needed for the StableDiffusion.cpp backend
- Built-in editor, upscaler and gallery
Cons
- Developer warns of problems on AMD hardware in recent builds
- Windows only
- Large installer and very large model downloads
How to install Amuse
The button downloads the Amuse installer (about 400 MB) from the official GitHub release. Update your GPU driver first; NVIDIA CUDA needs driver 580.65 or later. On Windows 11, run Amuse as administrator if creating the model environment fails. Models are large downloads, so choose a library folder on a drive with plenty of space.
Questions about Amuse
Is Amuse free?
Yes. Amuse is free to download and use, with no account. The source is Apache 2.0, and the compiled builds use the Amuse license because they include bundled third-party software.
Does Amuse still work on AMD graphics cards?
It supports Vulkan, which works on AMD cards, but the developer notes that recent builds may not work reliably on AMD devices and suggests ComfyUI or AMD Lemonade Server as alternatives.
